I stand at the doorstep of my childhood home. A bright afternoon. A beautiful, shady garden stretches beyond the horizon. Giant scarlet poppies bloom in the grass—as big as watermelons! The wind sways the purple magnolia flowers. Sunlight streams through the windows, and the play of shadows creates the illusion of stained glass coming to life.
Mom is in the kitchen, making jam that bubbles in a copper pot. The air fills with the rich aroma of berries. I want to taste it! But Mom says the jam needs to cool first.
