We bounce along a dirt road in a pickup truck, leaving clouds of dust behind us. All around are fields scorched by the blazing sun, stretching beyond the horizon.
We arrive at a farm where the air is rich with the sweet aroma of figs and the lush greenery of fig trees. They greet me as if we’ve known each other for years. Massive tables of polished cedar are piled high with ripe figs and damp, crisp leaves in every shade of green. I grab the ripest fruits and bite into their cool, sweet flesh.
I close my eyes in delight—so delicious! Someone is calling me. And suddenly, we’re running away. Ahead lies a winding path up a hill, lined with fig trees. Laughter and music drift from above.
The horizon blazes with a red sunset, and soon we’re in the heart of a merry crowd. Everyone wears dazzling costumes, their faces painted in bright colors. People laugh, sip fragrant cocktails with coconut milk and figs, and dance without pause. A musician’s fingers fly effortlessly over guitar strings.
And though I’ve never heard this melody before… it feels familiar! We spin faster and faster in the dance, until everything melts into a whirl of colors…
